Soju is a clear, colorless distilled beverage of Korean origin that is usually consumed neat. The name Soju translates to "burned liquor", with the first syllable (소) referring to the heat of distillation and the second syllable (주) referring to an alcoholic drink.
These flavoured sojus are infused with fruit flavours and are usually 13% ABV.

The origin of Soju dates back to the 13th century and is a distilling technique borrowed from the Persian Empire. Soju is traditionally made using rice. In 1965, to alleviate rice shortages, the Korea government placed a prohibition on Soju made from rice. Producers then switched to sweet potatoes and tapioca. The prohibition was lifted in 1999 and, today, Soju is the best selling spirit in the world
