Cooking Instructions 

For best experience, use a grill if available. (Mmmmm…. Smoky goodness).  A fry pan or an oven also work great.  Total estimated cooking time: 20 minutes.  

For grill:

  1. Pre-heat grill on medium high heat.                                   
  2. Put Kalbi on grill and cook on one side for 3 to 5 minutes until desired doneness and turn over. Flip page...
  3. Cook additional 3 to 4 minutes until desired doneness and serve.

For frying pan:

  1. Preheat non-stick or cast iron pan on medium high heat. 
  2. Add a bit of cooking oil to the pan (so the meat doesn’t stick). 
  3. Put Kalbi in the pan, and cook on one side for 3 to 5 minutes until desired doneness and turn over.
  4. Add garlic or green onions to pan if desired.  (optional)
  5. Cook additional 3 to 4 minutes until desired doneness and serve.

For baking: (Cooking times may vary based on oven)

  1. Preheat oven at 375 degrees ‘F
  2. Place meat evenly spaced on baking sheet.
  3. Add garlic or green onions if desired (optional)
  4. Bake for 15 - 20 minutes until desired doneness.  
  5. Then broil for 2 - 4 minutes and serve.

Eating instructions:

Enjoy cooked Kalbi on it’s own or wrapped in leafy greens.  After cooking, cut the kalbi into pieces and enjoy with rice and kimchi. 

For the full deep dive, wrap the cut meat in ssam (lettuce wrap).  You can also add in a bit of rice, fresh garlic, peppers, pieces of perilla or other fresh greens to the wrap.  Add a little bit of ssamjang for a full deep dive of Korean flavours.  Mix it up to make each bite an adventure.  (Don’t forget to wash your hands!)
