Jajangmyeon is relatively recent given the scope of Korean history and only traces its origins back to 1905. It was first introduced at a restaurant in Incheon that was run by a Chinese immigrant from the Shandong Province. Although the dish began as a Chinese noodle dish, it is thoroughly Korean and gained explosive popularity among the many merchants visiting the port of Incheon, which was Korea's centre of trade at the time. The original restaurant that first served Jajangmyeon still stands, but is now the official Jajangmyeon Museum.
